This is the clear reason why they get them baptized young, so that they can apply this shunning whenever they wake up to the fact they do not want to live by the JW standards, or when simply going through the normal hormonal/discovering/growing all young ones go through.
With this type of treatment from the ones a young person loves the most, they will sure return to the JW ranks.

i got a come back to jehovah email from my dad.
the first i have received since i told my mom i was an apostate.
in it he mentioned the assembly that was being held in july.
Glad to hear your marriage survived the WTBTS. I can only daydream mine would.
Hubby and all my immediate family is so entangled with all things JW, hardcore to the max, that my leaving would be pure torture as ALL family and friends I care about are in big time; we're talking Warwick planning/executing, RC coordinating, etc., real JW heavies, and..... me, playing all along as though nothing is wrong and we're all a big, happy, faithful JW family.

i went to my girlfriends church service last night.
basically it's a pentecostal type church that was started about 2 years ago.
for a church that had started just recently, there must of been a congregation of about 20 members.
They sure put on a lively show for the religious services. The $$$ price for said shows is too high.
Oh, the 'tongues' claim, is all made up; they have this in common with the WTBTS, you know, making up stuff. Then again, all religions do.

There are a couple of them in my extended family and their quirks are in parts way crazier than the JW world: Venomous snake handling, mandatory 10% tithing across the board (if you sell your home/car/whatever, 10% goes to the church), their women look awful without proper make-up and nice clothing; their leaders nicely benefit from the $$$ while members live miserably.
Not a good trade agreement for sure. Proceed with much caution....

i came in during all the hype over 1975. the predictions about that date were the real driver behind all their activity.
since then, they haven't had a good goad to prod the sheep.
they seem to be smart enough not to try another date.. i think they plan to use fear instead.

This 'going nuclear' with their fear tactic seems necessary since there is this massive bleed-out in membership. People are finding out TTATT and leaving in droves!

i was visiting with my family and it seems the rc was worse than i thought.
now they all seem to think that "we are so close to the end" and that the "brothers are really preparing us for the gt".
some even saying that soon our message will change to a judgement message for mankind and talking about how we need to improve "everything we do".
My assessment of the Spanish side is...
For us, JWs who have lived through the 1973-1975/mid-80s/mid-90s/1999-2001 'crying wolf' from the WTBTS, this RC will mean not a single thing.
We older J-Dubs are just really excited about seeing people we haven't seen in a while, dressing up/accessorizing beautifully, plus looking forward to dinner at a nice place afterwards. Some of us that decide to stay in a hotel also look forward to the comfy/elegant surroundings and the pool side fun in the evenings.
I understand the Society has to go almost nuclear with the hype as a good try to stop the severe bleed-out of membership. I mean, there are people leaving left and right, all 'spiritual' levels, as soon as the opportunity presents itself; it's incredible and refreshing all at the same time! Good!
Just another RC, another year that the big 'A' is NOT coming.

whether the average jw appreciates it or not (i certainly do not), the wtbts sure is helping in the environmentalists' movement of creating as much a paperless society as possible in order to preserve trees and create other favorable situations for humanity, such as avoiding so much trash and chemical waste involved in the printing/shipping process.. in order to help me adjust to this new phase within the org, i've reasoned it all this way.
anybody else recognizes that this going all out electronic/computerized is, of course, first a most profitable effort, but also has a secondary benefit of helping out to preserve the environment.......?!.

yes, we could have been born in an alley in calcutta or with the physical deformities associated with thalidomide.
instead, we were born into or introduced to a repressive, american, religious cult, that shielded us from the warmongering game of chess, the militaristic boy scouts, fornication-inducing sock hops, the twist, as well as the hokey pokey.
we heeded the warnings, avoiding the greedy self-worship associated with masturbation, decadent rock 'n roll and anything preceded by the word "extra-curricular.".
There are a few pet peeves I have with this 'religious' org; however, I also recognize there's much to be salvaged in living one's life in an orderly, wholesome manner.
Once some topics are reformed, such as the shunning, baptism of minors, monthly reporting of time/activities, frowning on higher education, I'd probably be okay with all other minor quirks around these WTBTS parts.

i know over the years they have bashed owning pets for various reasons.
complete stupidity.
A couple of the members from the GB have pets, so their 'do away with your pet' hints is garbage.
Pets are awesome! We have so much fun with them! Hubby and I love and enjoy our pets very much. Some of our friends and even immediate family have made the stupid comments that we spend too much money for care, food and toys.
Some have gotten the clear point when we've told them that "we can do it, so don't worry about us falling in debt over it", so the little negative comments have stopped recently.
